Sunni Marriage Network Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Sunni Marriage Network ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our Muslim matrimonial introduction service. We are committed to handling your data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

  • Full name, email address, phone number
  • Guardian name and contact details (where provided)

Profile information

  • Nationality, gender, age, height, marital status, location
  • Education (level and subject), employment, willingness to relocate
  • Family background, languages spoken

Special category data (Article 9 UK GDPR)

  • Ethnic or racial origin
  • Religious practices and observance
  • Clothing preferences and beard preference (where related to religious or cultural observance)

We only process special category data with your explicit consent, given at registration.

Preferences and free-text

  • Partner age range, preferred ethnicity, religious and educational expectations
  • Personal statement, qualities sought, further comments

Account and technical data

  • Profile state and payment state
  • Account closure survey responses (reason for leaving, data handling choice)
  • Authentication credentials managed by Firebase Auth
  • Aggregated usage data via Firebase Analytics (where supported by your browser)

  • Creating and managing your profile — contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b))
  • Matching and sharing your profile with prospective partners — contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b))
  • Processing special category data (religion, ethnicity) — explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a))
  • Platform security and fraud prevention — legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f))
  • Retaining account closure records — legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f))
  • Service analytics and improvement — legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f))

5. How we share your information

We do not sell your data. We share it only:

  • With other approved members — your profile is visible to other approved members as part of the matchmaking service. You are notified of your profile's sharing status.
  • With Google Firebase / Google Cloud — our infrastructure provider for database (Firestore), authentication, file storage, and analytics. Google processes data under a Data Processing Agreement using Standard Contractual Clauses. Data may be held in the US and EU.
  • For legal compliance — where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights or safety of individuals.

6. International transfers

Firebase may store and process your data on servers outside the UK, including in the United States. These transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK ICO.

7. Retention

  • Active profile: until you close your account
  • Archived profile ("keep my data" option): 3 months from your last active date, then permanently deleted
  • Account closure records: 7 years for audit/legal compliance
  • Firebase Auth credentials: deleted immediately when you choose "Delete my data now"
  • Firebase Analytics: subject to Google's default 26-month retention

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access your data; correct inaccurate data (editable directly in your profile); erase your data (via "Close account" in your profile); restrict or object to processing; receive your data in a portable format; withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior lawful processing; and not be subject to solely automated decisions.

9. Withdrawing consent

Withdraw your explicit consent for special category data at any time via "Close account" in your profile. You may choose immediate deletion or the 3-year retention path.

10. Cookies and analytics

Firebase Analytics is only activated if your browser supports it. It may use cookies or similar technologies. You can opt out via browser settings. We do not use advertising cookies.

11. Security

We protect your data using: Firestore Security Rules, Firebase Auth with industry-standard credential hashing, HTTPS for all communications, and role-based access controls. Contact us immediately at sunnimarriagenetwork@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

12. Children

Our service is for adults only. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Contact us to remove any such data.

13. Changes

Material changes will be announced on the platform or by email. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the last revision.
